Pumpkin & Squash Recycling Event – Saturday, 11/6/21

Kane County, in conjunction with Pushing the Envelope Farm and Northern Illinois Food Bank, are offering a free pumpkin recycling event in Geneva on Saturday, November 6^th from 9am to 12 noon, to help you reduce your seasonal holiday waste!

Jack O’Lanterns, pumpkins and decorative squashes are highly compostable and it is a real shame to just send them to a landfill, when the nutrients they contain could instead be returned to soil that will grow more healthy food!

When: Saturday, November 6^th, 2021 from 9am-12pm

Where: Pushing the Envelope Farm at 1700 Averill Road in Geneva

YES: They will take • pumpkins (carved or whole) • decorative squashes and gourds • corn stalks • hay bales • any other organic materials used as fall décor

NO: They will not take any Jack O’Lanterns with any of the following items in or on them:

• candles • yarn hair • stickers • glitter • googly eyes • plastic ears • plastic of any kind • excessive amounts of paint

Because these materials will be composted straight into the soil of the farm, it is very important to keep it contaminant-free; just like food scrap composting. In other words, only the squashes, pumpkins, and gourds themselves can be accepted at this event!

Spread the word! Tell your neighbors and friends to utilize this great service to get all those pumpkins composted instead of landfilled!

Every day, more than 130 Americans die after overdosing on opioids. As the prescription opioid epidemic continues to worsen, Northwestern Medicine is working alongside the Drug Enforcement Administration to host collection sites for National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The event aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible way to dispose of unused opioids and other prescription medications, while also educating the general public about the potential for misuse of medications.

Unused medications thrown in the trash can be retrieved and abused, or illegally sold. If they are flushed, they can contaminate the water supply. Proper disposal of unused drugs saves lives and protects the environment.

Please note, sharps and liquids will not be accepted, and Take Back Day is for community members, not for commercial organizations.

Northwestern Medicine will host six sites for community members to visit from 10 am – 2 pm on Saturday, October 23.

Parade Route

The Village of Maple Park will be hosting the Kaneland Homecoming Parade on Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at 6 PM.  Line up begins at 5 PM.  The parade route will lead off at Broadway and Main Street, it will head West on Main, South on Kennebec, and East on Willow ending at the Civic Center.

In December 2021, Chief of Police Dean Stiegemeier is retiring and the Village has begun the process of hiring a new Chief.  The Village Board is interested in receiving input from it’s residents, property owners and business owners on the new Chief of Police.  Please follow the link below and take this 15 question survey, it should take about nine (9) minutes to complete.  The survey can only be taken once from each device (cell phone, computer, tablet, etc.); so if there’s more than one (1) person in the house that wishes to take the survey, they may do so on a different device.  Survey results will be kept confidential.  The Survey will close at 11:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 26, 2021.
