Ofc. Jason Richmeier has been nominated for consideration of recognition as the Kane County Officer of the Year.   The Kane County Officer of the Year recognition is an awards recognition hosted by the Kane County Chiefs of Police Association. All law enforcement agencies with Kane County are eligible to submit a nomination.   Ofc. Richmeier has been nominated for this award by Chief Randy Endean.  Chief Endean has stated in his nomination that, “ Jason has proven to be an invaluable asset to the Maple Park Police Department and the community of Maple Park.  Jason Richmeier demonstrates and expresses his pride in being a police officer and a member of the Maple Park Police Department.”

The nomination of Ofc. Richmeier was submitted with supporting letter from Maple Park Police Commander James Olsen, Village Administrator Cheryl Aldridge and Maple Park Fire Protection District Chief Ted Peterson.

The winner of the award will be selected on March 5, 2026.

The Issue: Improper disposal of lithium-ion batteries can create fast-moving fires that may be difficult to extinguish.  When tossed in curbside bins, they can be crushed by equipment, leading to dangerous fires that can put workers and facilities at risk.

The Solution: At Your Door Special Collection®

Because your community is served by WM’s At Your Door service, residents can schedule a safe, front-door pickup for these items.

• Schedule a Pickup: Residents can visit WMAtYourDoor.com or call 1-800-449-7587 to schedule a collection.
• What’s Accepted: Most household batteries, including lithium-primary, NiCad, and alkaline, as well as many electronics.
• Preparation: Always tape battery terminals with non-conductive tape (like electrical tape) before disposal to prevent sparks.

Using specialized collection ensures that valuable minerals are safely recovered and repurposed into new products.

Pursuant to the Amendment to the Municipal Solid Waste, Recycling and Yard Waste Agreement between the Village of Maple Park and Waste Management, an annual rate adjustment is scheduled for February 1, 2026.

Effective February 1, 2026 the new monthly rates for service will be:

Monthly Rate                       $27.96

Monthly Senior Rate            $25.16

Not sure what to do with that unwanted Christmas Tree?  Residents may set out one Christmas tree to be collected on the normal trash pickup day during the first two weeks of January.  Christmas trees must be clean (e.g., no ornaments, lights or tinsel), unbagged and under 6 feet in length (or cut into 2 pieces, each under 6 feet in length, if tree is greater than 6 feet tall).
