THINK YOU HAVE A HIGH UTILITY BILL?

Contact the Village office at (815) 827-3309.  Staff can look at your prior bills to see if there is a pattern of use. They can also walk you through some of the first things to check into.  Note that during hot summer months you may be using more water due to increased showering or doing a few extra loads of clothes due to changing more frequently.  One simple thing to check for is a running toilet.  Grab some food coloring, add a few drops into the toilet tank.  Wait 10 to 20 minutes and DO NOT FLUSH the toilet.  If the food coloring shows up in the bowl, then water has leached from the tank to the bowl.  This is something that you may not see or hear, but it may be costing you money.  An inexpensive fix of replacing the rubber flapper in the tank may be all you need!
